Court of Honor & Service Project

Several important items of information:

  • Monday, May 20, is our quarterly Troop Court of Honor. We will meet at the normal time (7 pm). Patrols should have a skit prepared, we will distribute important information about summer camp, and we have several rank advancements and other recognitions. Complete Class A uniform and merit badge sashes should be worn.
  • Tuesday, May 21, the Troop has once again been asked to place flags on graves of veterans at Somerset City Cemetery for Memorial Day. Meet Ms. Weatherly at the cemetery at 10 am and wear your Class A uniform shirt.
  • Monday, May 27, there is no meeting due to the Memorial Day holiday.
  • Saturday, June 1, we will be offering the Citizenship in the Community Eagle-required Merit Badge. Class starts 10 am at East Somerset Baptist Church. Wear Class A uniform and bring paper and a pencil/pen.

Weekend campout details

First, just to make sure we are on the same page, there WILL NOT be a floating campout this weekend. As explained at Monday’s meeting, the water level on Buck Creek is too low.

Therefore, we decided to do a Troop Campout on Saturday and Sunday. We will be camping at Blue Heron Campground in McCreary County. Details are as follows:

  • Everyone should meet at the storage building at 8 am on Saturday.
  • Please eat something for breakfast before arriving.
  • We will need to pack the trailer and patrol boxes before leaving.
  • Class A uniform shirt and neckerchief should be worn.
  • Please bring $10, which will cover the cost of food and the campground.
  • Focus will be on completing rank skills and merit badge requirements.
  • We do plan to go on a short hike, so make sure you bring a water bottle.
  • Because we will be camping in bear country, absolutely no food or snacks should be kept in your backpack or taken into tents. All trash and food will be locked in the trailer at night.
  • We plan to be back at church around 1 pm on Sunday. Parents/guardians will be called when we leave Stearns.

Troop Physicals

As a reminder, this Thursday, May 2, will be the Troop’s annual BSA physicals. This Free checkup will begin at 6 p.m. at East Somerset Baptist. Please be sure to bring your completed medical form (click here to download), immunization record, and a photocopy of the front and back of your medical insurance card.

All registered Scouts and adult leaders are required to have an annual check-up. It is mandatory for Summer Camp and/or to participate in activities such as the upcoming Floating Camporee (May 17-19). This will be for the BSA physical only – no school-required athletic checks.

Monday’s meeting change reminder

On Monday, April 22, the Troop will be attending the Somerset City Council meeting instead of our regular meeting. Please be at the Somerset City Hall/Energy Center, 306 East Mt. Vernon Street, by 6:45 pm in full uniform (includes neckerchief).

The Council meeting begins at 7:00 pm, so we want to be seated in advance. The Council Chambers are located immediately inside the front entrance.

This meeting is important because it will allow Scouts to complete Communication Merit Badge Requirement 5 and Citizenship in the Community Merit Badge Requirements 3a & 3b. Both of these merit badges are required for Eagle Scout Rank. You will need to bring paper and a pencil/pen to take notes on what is discussed.

You can see specifically what these requirements state by going to the Calendar page on this website, or to the Communication and/or Citizenship in the Community merit badge requirements booklets.

Any questions about the meeting should be directed to Assistant Scoutmaster Jeff Bullock.
