As a reminder this Monday October 5, 2020 there will be no scout meeting due to fall break.
Popcorn Show-n-Sell begins
Show-n-Sell popcorn sales are beginning this weekend. A reminder to all Scouts that they should wear their Class A uniform while participating in our Troop’s annual fundraiser.
Participating in Show-n-Sell opportunities is one of the easiest ways to reach your sales goal, but don’t forget Ms. Withers has your personal code to sell to friends and family on-line.
There are still slots open for Show-n-Sell dates. Either give Ms. Withers a call or learn more at Monday’s Troop meeting.
Assistance requested for Troop’s popcorn pick-up
UPDATED TO CORRECT TIME
Help requested. This Thursday, September 17, Troop 170’s show-‘n’-sell popcorn will be delivered to The Center for Rural Development at 3:30 pm. Our Popcorn Kernel, Amy Withers, needs assistance with picking up this order and transporting it to storage due to a limitation on lifting. If you are available to help, please contact Amy by phone or text at 606-305-4105 ASAP.
Service project opportunity Saturday
Troop 170 has been asked to help with clean-up at Cole Park in Burnside Saturday, September 5, from 8 am to 10 am. There are several adults and youth already committed to assisting. Anyone interested should meet Mr. Phelps or Judge Vanover at the Burnside City Hall building on U.S. 27 at 8 am. Scouts should wear a Class B shirt (Scout-related T-shirt). A face mask is required and gloves recommended. Remember, this is just a 2-hour project and service hours are required for rank advancement.
Troop overnight backpack trip set
For those who have not been on our weekly Troop meeting Zoom calls, and for those that just need a reminder, we are going to attempt the Troop overnight backpacking trip – which is geared especially for those with little or no experience – on Saturday-Sunday, September 12-13.
- If you plan to participate, we would like to know at our meeting Monday, August 31.
- Each Scout will prepare their own menu and purchase their own food. Saturday supper should be one that you must cook. (We will review this during Monday’s meeting.)
- There is no fee for this event.
- You should plan to sleep on a hammock or in a tarp shelter – there will be no sharing of tents. If you need any supplies let us know on Monday.
Final backpacking plans
A few reminders for July 20 Troop meeting:
- If you are going on the backpack overnighter July 25-26 you must let us know at meeting.
- You should bring a copy of your menu, which must include a cooked meal for Saturday night.
- You will purchase your own food; there is no food fee for this event.
- You should plan to sleep on a hammock or in a tarp shelter. If you need any supplies let us know.
Celebrating another Eagle Scout
Congratulations to Joseph C., who became Troop 170’s 56th Eagle Scout after successfully completing his District Board of Review Thursday, June 29, 2020. Members of the Board were Lake Cumberland District Committee members, from left, Dr. David Eads, Micah Wooldridge, Bruce Orwin, and Michael Wooldridge.
Virtual campout begins tonight
I hope everyone is excited for Friday night’s opening of the Troop 170 Virtual campout. Every member of the Troop was sent an email with the Zoom link Thursday evening.
Please be logged on no later than 7:30 pm. The room will be open by 7:15 pm.
All members of your family are encouraged to join and watch the program – you should be pleased with what we have planned.
Details for Saturday will be given during the program Friday, and you will be sent another email with the Zoom link for Saturday — IT WILL BE DIFFERENT THAN THE ONE YOU USE FRIDAY.
