Fire Merit Badge Part Two This Monday
If you have forgotten, this Monday night we will be meeting at the fire station on South Avenue to be completing the Fire Safety Merit Badge. Remember your homework – a written home fire escape plan! All scouts are expected to be in FULL CLASS A uniform with a pencil and the worksheet (if you don’t have the work sheet look at previous posts and click the link or bring paper.)
Mr. Renner competes on History Channel’s ‘Forged in Fire’
Our own Chartered Organization Representative, Jeff Renner, is a contestant on The History Channel’s “Forged in Fire” original competition series that will air on Tuesday, October 31, at 9 pm. Although we don’t know much about Mr. Renner’s experience, the promo for the show stated it was a Viking-themed competition.
Forged in Fire is hosted by weapons expert and U.S. Army and Air Force veteran Wil Willis and features world-class bladesmiths competing to create history’s most iconic edged weapons. In each episode, four of the nation’s finest bladesmiths come together to put their skill and reputations on the line, trying to avoid elimination and win the $10,000 prize. They use sweat, fire, force of will, and a well-equipped forge to turn raw material into authentic, fully functional implements of war. These weapons must stand up to a battery of strength and sharpness tests, as well as the critical assessment of expert judges.
Storage building has arrived
In case you have not heard, Troop 170’s new storage building arrived Monday – in the pouring rain. Thanks Mr. Martin for coordinating the delivery and set-up. The next phase will be to get the interior ready to receive our gear. Won’t be long now.
Halloween service project
Troop 170 has been asked to assist with the “Trail of Treats” at Firebrook Community Park (located on Ferry Road) this Saturday, October 28, from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm. If you are willing to participate, you must let Jeff or Carole Bradley know by Wednesday. To earn service project hours Scouts need to wear their Class A uniform shirt.
Next Two Monday Meetings
As a reminder all scouts need to be in full Class A uniform. The meeting will be at the Somerset Fire Department at 121 Central Avenue at 7pm. All scouts need to bring the worksheet and something to write with.
Fire Safety Merit Badge
A reminder that the Fire Safety Merit Badge will be offered starting at 7 pm on the next two (2) Monday nights (October 23 & 30) instead of a regular Troop meeting. You will need to be present for both sessions to complete the merit badge.
Classes will be held at the Somerset Fire Department, located on South Central Avenue in Somerset. You are expected to wear your Class A uniform.
WORKSHEETS – Please print out a merit badge worksheet and bring with you to the class (along with a pencil or pen). You may access a worksheet from USScouts.org or BoyScoutTrail.com.
Please let Mr. Bullock know by Friday, October 20, if you will be able to attend.
October Campout
As a reminder, this weekend is the Webelo campout at The Bottoms. All scouts who wish to participate in this campout who won’t be able to attend the Monday meeting, please notify the Senior Patrol Leader that you wish to attend. This campout is only one night.
