COH Cookout at The Bottoms
Just a reminder that Troop 170’s Cookout Court of Honor begins at 6 pm tonight, May 24, and will be held at The Bottoms. Click here to download directions.
Scouts should wear their Class A uniform shirt with neckerchief and bring a camp chair to sit in. Hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided. The campfire program will include Patrol skits, rank advancements, merit badge presentations, other awards, and the annual “Friends of Scouting” presentation. We will grill marshmallows following the formal program. This event is for your entire family.
May & June Troop activities update
As announced at Monday’s meeting (May 10), there have been a number of changes to the Troop calendar for the next two months. These updates include:
- No Troop campout in May.
- This Saturday, May 15, will be a workday to organize the storage building starting at 11 am.
- This Sunday, May 16, there will be an Urban Adventure Hike in downtown Somerset starting at 1 pm.
- A Court of Honor bonfire program will be held at The Bottoms starting at 6 pm.
- Troop Physicals will be provided free at 6 pm on Thursday, June 3. ALL SCOUTS AND REGISTERED LEADERS MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL ON THE BSA MEDICAL FORM ANNUALLY. (If you cannot make it, a current medical form must be submitted no later than the June 7 meeting.)

Venture Crew Flowers Pick Up
If you ordered flowers to support Venture Crew 170, you can pick up your flowers after 3 pm at East Somerset Baptist Church Shelter house. Thank you for supporting Crew 170.
Venture Crew Flowers
Thank you to everyone who bought flowers from Crew 170. The flowers are being delivered TODAY and can be picked up TODAY at East Somerset Baptist Church at the shelter. We do have a definite delivery time yet. The storms and heavy rain have delayed loading the truck. It will be some time this afternoon. Please keep an eye for a second post for the delivery time of the flowers.
Hal Rogers Leadership Dinner Reminder
As a friendly reminder, tonight, May 3rd is the 17th annual Hal Rogers Leadership Dinner. All scouts who are participating in the dinner need to arrive at the Center for Rural Development around 5:45 p.m. All Scouts need to wear their Full Class A uniform. THIS INCLUDES the neckerchief and dress (nicer) shoes.
Venture Crew Fundraiser
As a reminder, anyone wishing to help Crew 170 with their first fundraiser please contact Crew 170 members by Monday night. Crew 170 is selling flowers in hanging baskets and instant pots. The flowers will be here in time for Mother’s Day. This is an easy gift ready to hang out set in place where you, or mom, wants them.

April 19 meeting time, location changed; service project to assist United Way
The Troop meeting on Monday, April 19, will begin at 6:30 pm and be held at 206 West Mt. Vernon Street in downtown Somerset. Family members are welcome to join the Troop as we help to clean up the new offices for the United Way of South Central Kentucky as a community service project. There are jobs both inside and outside to do. Cleaning supplies, gloves, and disposable masks will be provided. Please wear a Troop or Scout-related T-shirt.
