Weekend campout details

First, just to make sure we are on the same page, there WILL NOT be a floating campout this weekend. As explained at Monday’s meeting, the water level on Buck Creek is too low.

Therefore, we decided to do a Troop Campout on Saturday and Sunday. We will be camping at Blue Heron Campground in McCreary County. Details are as follows:

  • Everyone should meet at the storage building at 8 am on Saturday.
  • Please eat something for breakfast before arriving.
  • We will need to pack the trailer and patrol boxes before leaving.
  • Class A uniform shirt and neckerchief should be worn.
  • Please bring $10, which will cover the cost of food and the campground.
  • Focus will be on completing rank skills and merit badge requirements.
  • We do plan to go on a short hike, so make sure you bring a water bottle.
  • Because we will be camping in bear country, absolutely no food or snacks should be kept in your backpack or taken into tents. All trash and food will be locked in the trailer at night.
  • We plan to be back at church around 1 pm on Sunday. Parents/guardians will be called when we leave Stearns.

Please be sure to bring your completed medical form (click here to download), immunization record, and a photocopy of the front and back of your medical insurance card.

All registered Scouts and adult leaders are required to have an annual check-up. It is mandatory for Summer Camp and/or to participate in activities such as the upcoming Floating Camporee (May 17-19). This will be for the BSA physical only – no school-required athletic checks.

Scout Sunday & Scouting for Food

On Sunday, February 10, Troop 170 will celebrate SCOUT SUNDAY with our Charter Organization, East Somerset Baptist Church, as a way to say thank you for their continued support.

Scouts should meet at 10:15 am in the front of the church, in full uniform with neckerchief. This is for ALL members of your family, regardless of religious denomination or beliefs. Services will conclude at Noon.

This day we will also be participating in the annual SCOUTING FOR FOOD drive, so please bring non-perishable food items. We will donate all food collected that day to a local food bank or non-profit organization.
