Several very important Troop 170 updates for August meetings:
1. There WILL NOT be a Patrol Leader’s Council (PLC) OR regular Troop meeting on Monday, July 29 because there are too many families who have conflicts and cannot attend.
2. At our next Troop meeting on Monday, August 5, each Patrol should be prepared to cook a Dutch oven dessert. This will be a competition with the winning Patrol receiving a prize at the Court of Honor. Troop will supply charcoal and Dutch ovens. You will be judged on creativity, taste, and presentation.
3. If you plan on attending the Troop’s annual canoe/kayak trip Friday-Sunday, August 23-25, you need to confirm your attendance and pay the $10 food money at the August 5 meeting. There is a lot of planning to ensure we have enough canoes/kayaks as well as transportation. Mr. Loiacono is in charge of arrangements.
4. Please don’t forget that the Troop meeting on Monday, August 12, will begin at 6:30 pm at Fishing Creek Recreation Area where we will have canoe and/or kayak paddling lessons and practice. We will stay out until around dark for anyone wishing to hone their skills. Those that have their own lifejackets are encouraged to bring them.
5. A Cookout Court of Honor will be held on Monday, August 19. This will also begin at 6:30 pm and is intended for the entire family to celebrate Scout recognitions and achievements. A list of what each Patrol should bring will be distributed at the August 5 troop meeting.
6. The Troop’s annual canoe/kayak trip will be Friday-Sunday, August 23-25, on the Green River.
7. The next PLC meeting will be held at 6:15 pm on Monday, August 26. This will be the first meeting for newly-elected Troop youth leadership. All Patrol Leaders will meet with the new SPL & ASPL to plan activities for the coming months. If PLs cannot attend, they should ensure their APLs are there to represent their Patrol.
8. The Troop Calendar has been updated through end of September. You should get in a habit of checking the calendar at least once a week for the latest updates.
